In my previous blog posts regarding the new blog series Troubleshooting HCL Notes, the error messages Unable to Read Rollover Values from View, Invalid Collection Data was Detected, DAOS Prune - Deleted 0 objects and completed with error: (685) Document attachment, The address book does not contain a cross certificate capable of validating the public key is invalid, Server Task Agent Manager on Server is No Longer Responding and HCL Nomad - Server is not reachablewere explained in more detail. We also briefly looked at the Domino Configuration Tuner (DCT), the Domino Domain Monitor (DDM), the OpenNTF OpenLog application and Debugging Agents. In this blog post the steps required to configure the Domino server for Mail Tracking are explained. The configuration allows Administrators to customize the type of information you want to collect and store in the Domino MailTracker Store database (MTSTORE.NSF). A Configuration Settings document must be present on the Domino server.
15. Mail Monitoring - Server Configuaration
As indicated the configuration process allows Administrators to customize the type of information they want to collect and store in the Domino MailTracker Store database (MTSTORE.NSF). For example Administrators can exclude certain user mail files from being collected or you restrict messages from being tracked by message subject. Below are the necessary steps that must be performed.
From the Domino Administrator select the Configuration Tab and expand the Messaging section.
Select Configurations.
Select the Configuration Settings document for the mail server or servers you want to administer and click Edit Configuration.
In the Configuration Settings document select the Router/SMTP> Message Tracking tab.
Add the values in the fields below.
Field Message tracking. Enabled to log message-handling activity information in the Domino MailTracker Store database. Disabled (default) to not log any message-handling information.Field Don't track messages for. The names of users and/or groups whose messages will not be logged and therefore cannot be tracked. This field applies only to messages sent by the specified person or group. If Administrators leave this field blank (default), authorized administrators can track messages for all users and groups on all servers that are enabled for mail tracking.
Field Log message subjects. Select YES OR No. If Yes is selected the server records the subject of each message in the Domino MailTracker Store database. If No is selected (default) the server does not log message subjects.
Field Field Don't log subjects for. The names of users and, or, groups whose message subjects will not be logged and therefore cannot be tracked. This field applies only to messages sent by the specified person or group. The default is none.
Field Message tracking collection interval. A number that represents how often in minutes Administrators want to log message tracking activity in the Domino MailTracker Store database. The default 15 minutes is recommended.
Field Allowed to track messages. The names of servers and, or, users allowed to track messages on the server. If Administrators leave this field blank (default) only members of the LocalDomainServers group are authorized to track messages on this server. If Administrators add any entries to this field they must list all servers and users that are allowed to track messages on this server.
Field Allowed to track subjects. The names of servers and users allowed to track messages by subject on this server. If Administrators leave this field blank (default) only members of the LocalDomainServers group are authorized to track messages by subject on this server. If Administrators add any entries to this field they must list all servers and users allowed to track subjects on this server. If Administrators list servers and users in this field they do not have to list them in the Allowed to track messages field.
Finally select Save and Close to save the configuration settings.
The Configuration Settings for Mail Tracking on the Domino server are now complete.
Below the settings as we use them on the Domino server where we only use the LocalDomainAdmins en LocalDomainServer groups.
In the next blog post, we are going to look at how Administrators can check the Mail Tracking Collector using console commands. So stay tuned!
